Alumni Spotlight: Michelle Beaudette Class of 2014
Michelle has created a green, sustainable makeup and self-care company called Kaolin Beauty. Through her work at Northeastern University, she has received prototype grants, participated in the entrepreneurship program, and taken First Place in a Startup Challenge through Northeastern’s Entrepreneurs Club. She has also received her diploma in organic skincare formulation.
“Kaolin Beauty is an ethical, non-toxic, zero-waste makeup and self-care company that strives for both spiritual and environmental excellence. We create products that empower women to make purchasing decisions aligned with supporting their skin, spirituality, and the environment.”
After graduating from WSL, Michelle attended Lexington High School and is currently a third year student at Northeastern University. She credits her experience at WSL for giving her valuable communications skills, strong social and interpersonal skills and academic rigor — all valuable strengths for networking and building professional relationships for her business and her future.
“My fondest memories of WSL were our trips to Hawthorne Valley Farm from third grade through sixth grade. As someone who is very passionate about sustainable agriculture, this experience was extremely impactful to me. It gave me a deeper understanding of biodynamics and helped me build a stronger relationship with the Earth. My family has since started our own small farm in Lexington, Massachusetts where we raise goats, hens, honey bees and grow beautiful organic vegetables. Additionally, my startup, Kaolin Beauty, has a mission of sustainability that is woven throughout many aspects of the brand from the infusions of organic herbs into our products to our plantable and biodegradable packaging.”
Michelle has just launched a crowdfunding campaign for her business. She is working to raise $8,000 by June 22nd to fund her first bulk order of plantable packaging bags, equipment to help scale production, and bulk ingredients. For more information about her campaign, and to make a donation visit her campaign page.
Kaolin Beauty’s official brand launch is currently planned for June 29th and the crowdfunding campaign will be open through the 22nd of June. Michelle is planning to sell her products at two pop-up stores this summer as well as in small retail locations.
