Immunizations
At the Waldorf School of Lexington, the health and safety of everyone in our community is our number one priority. We urge parents and guardians to make medical decisions in partnership with their pediatrician to keep children, their classmates, and all WSL family members as safe as possible.
Like all licensed schools, both public and private, WSL follows state policy for vaccinations. Per state guidelines, we require that all students be fully vaccinated or submit an annual exemption (medical or religious). We report immunization data for all nursery, kindergarten, and 7th grade students to the state. The State makes this data available to the public on its website. By state law we cannot force families to vaccinate their children, or deny unvaccinated children admission to school, as long as they have an exemption on file with the school.
Students who have not been fully vaccinated against vaccine-preventable diseases will be excluded from school if they contract or have been exposed to such diseases, per state guidelines. Non-immunized students are subject to exclusion from school as described in the state’s Reportable Diseases and Isolation and Quarantine Requirements (105 CMR 300.000).
We strongly urge parents to educate themselves on the substantial body of scientific evidence that indicates vaccines are not only safe but essential for personal and public health, particularly in a community of diverse individuals, including:
babies who are too young to be vaccinated
grandparents with weakened immune systems
family members who are immunosuppressed due to cancer treatment, or who for other reasons have compromised immune systems
