Glimpse Into Grade 3: Currency Math Block
Last month, in the third grade’s currency math block, the students had a wonderful time creating their own merchandise for the various stores in the “Third Grade Snowflake Mall.” After making gifts in school and at home, the students priced their items and each child was given an allowance of “school money” to spend at the mall.
Students took turns being shopkeepers, learning how to make change, and balancing the cash register. Throughout this playful, interactive block, the third graders mastered the following math skills: organizing, counting, adding multiple numbers, handling money, and budgeting.
In addition to creating their hand-crafted goods, quite a few of the students were inspired to write their own books. With the help of Ms.Cody these books were transformed into "library books," which the students could lend during class.
