Thank you for supporting WSL!
Together our parents, faculty, staff, alumni and extended community raised nearly $110,000 in funds for our school through online and live auctions, games and easel parties, and the special appeal paddle raise at our Hoedown! We are deeply grateful for your generosity. From improvisational faculty theatrics and delicious food to live music from Waldorf's faculty/parent rock band, The Rolling Gnomes—a wonderful time was had by all!
2019 Special Appeal Paddle raise:
New custom cabinets & sinks in Grades 1–8
The special appeal is a yearly fundraising campaign that is kicked-off at the annual Spring Party and continues through the end of the school year. While the proceeds from our live and online auctions support the general operating fund of the school, it is the special appeal that supports tangible improvements to the campus. Past special appeal projects include a bathroom renovation in the lower-level of the main school building, new blackboards, orchestra chairs, auditorium renovation, new roofing and playground improvements. This year, your gift to our 2019 Special Appeal will help fund the installation of wooden custom cabinets and sinks into classrooms across the grades.
Currently, the only classroom in the grades that contains a sink is 1st grade. This has meant that 2nd through 8th grade have no direct access to drinking water, water for painting and watering plants, for washing hands, or for cleaning up art projects. Students and teachers have been filling buckets and other carrying vessels and hauling them through the halls to the classrooms every day. Additionally, as with many historic buildings, nearly all of the classrooms have inadequate storage. This has resulted in teachers procuring a hodgepodge of cabinetry, none of which is curriculum aligned. They have been lugging these pieces of furniture from classroom to classroom every summer as they advance through the grades with their students.
These dramatic facility enhancements will meaningfully impact all students and faculty by improving their day-to-day experience in the classroom. The goal for this project is to raise $65,000 by June 30, 2019. Please join us and support this year’s special appeal—thank you for your continued support!
